Black Beauty

Matte black is where it's at,

on the beauty scene right now.
For lips that is anyway.

For years it's been relegated to the makeup bags of goth girls and sulky emo kids, and don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's an every day wear, and I'm definitely not claiming it's the colour for everyone.
But lately black lipstick is being donned by style icons like Rihanna & Kylie Jenner as well as spotted on fashion and beauty blogs the world over.

Pro Tips 4 Black Lips

Line your lips first with a super sharp eyeliner pencil, this will both give you a template to work with and stop the lipstick bleeding and making you look like a hot mess.

Normally I don't bother with fancy apparatus such a lip brushes but for this look it's a must; allowing you to get all up in those little nooks and crannies.

Use a cream-based highlighter (Google it if you have to) around the outside edge of your lips to "frame" them, accentuating the lip shape and also preventing colour bleed.

Also (and this probably should've been the first tip) make sure to prep your lips before you begin. Scrub away any yuck dead skin and coat with concealer to help make that black stay.

And lastly, anyone who hit that awful goth stage in their teen years knows how easily this look can go from edgy to awful so make sure to blot and reapply, then blot and reapply some more to get that all day/night lasting look.

The Pick

Unless you live under a rock, then you would've heard about "pastel goth" brand Lime Crime, innovative and mega creative cosmetics brand that's taken the world by storm riding in on unicorns and rainbows.
Arguably their coolest creation yet are their range of Velvetine lip colours, as pimped by them...

"cruelty-free, vegan lipstick ... rich, highly pigmented formula glides on for a velvety look. Dries to a luscious matte finish."

Sounds too good to be true, but it's not.
And if you're too scared to bite the bullet and go black, take baby steps and begin with a deep red or dark berry, all colours available here.

Good luck girls.
