Modern ANTIQUITY

With Urban Couture in full swing,

at the moment we find ourselves with a very appropriate Label Love to share.
The latest collection from Perth designer Jonté Pike, and it looks like the label's gone and gotten all grown up of late, we talked to Jonté this week about her designing and the musings behind,

ANTIQUITY

How the label come into being...

"The Jonté label was born after I studied fashion at Polytechnic West... I have had great opportunities to travel overseas to South Korea for a trade show, Japan twice for textile collaborations and interstate to Melbourne and Sydney for collection showcases."

The muse behind Antiquity...

"Inspiration [for the collection] was drawn from an antique necklace, which belonged to my Grandmother when she was younger... I was intrigued by the vintage factor as well as possessing modern qualities. This inspired the Antiquity collection having this ancient ambience with a modern outlook."

Something people don't know about designing a line...

"Designing can be similar to writing a book - instead of getting writers block you can get designers block. If this happens I usually catch up with a friend, go for a walk or down to the beach to clear my head. Often a great idea will pop into my mind when I least expect it! Sometimes it's best to just let your designing be organic"

My absolute favourite piece from this collection...

"Would have to be the Zip Leather Leggings. I am obsessed with leather and the comfort factor of them. I'll be wearing them all Winter. I also can't wait to get wearing the Antiquity Cape... throw it on top of any outfit and it creates an edgy look instantly whilst being versatile for day and night."

How I've gotten to where I am today...

"Having a strong support base from friends and family has been the main motivator to keep designing and continue expanding the label. WA also has a great fashion community where networking allows collaborations and support bases for events such as Urban Couture, which give opportunities to designers like myself to create brand awareness."

You can see more of this gorgeous Winter 2014 collection, along with designs from SISS On Bare, Jessica Bratich and  Debbie Kelly Millinery, on the Urban Couture designer runway this Saturday 29th March at Central Park, Joondalup.
