Skirtin' the Issue

Silhouettes are set to be mixed up,

this year with skirt styles stepping away from the norm and alternating between fun and flirty, demure and delicate, to the downright sexy.

But it's not just structure that will be changing it up with colours, prints, patterns and more jumping in the mix it can easily get overwhelming.
Here's our picks for some of 2014's best skirt styles to try at home... or on the street, in the office, pretty much anywhere.

the Asymmetric Skirt

And no, we're not talking about the soul-killing skorts or heinous high-ligh skirts of 2013 that many fashion victims are still clutching to like life preservers.
We're talking an altogether more grown-up, angular and sexy look to take us into 2014.

the Fit & Flare

Otherwise known as the trumpet or fluted skirt this one can come in an endless array of cuts, colours and lengths meaning you can find an office-worthy contender or a super-short mini version for late night shenanigans.

the Centre Split

The time has come to do-away with those shy side-splits and move towards something brazenly bolder. The centre-split skirt skirt is not for the faint of heart - however if you're keen to try but not go the whole-hog then go for a style with a slightly off centre split (bottom right pics) to keep it classy.

Labels that love it - Maurie & Eve, Maxime Simoëns, Willow

the Full Midi

Previously reserved for hardcore prepsters and housewives from another era. The high-volume midi skirt is back with a ladylike vengeance. Pair it with a crop to show some skin and show off that teeny-tiny waist.

Labels that love it - Cynthia Rowley, Melinda & Narina, Tibi

the Max-Volume Maxi

Forget the figure hugging full-length skirts of last season, as with the midis, maxi skirts are going full volume. Bold colours and captivating prints take it to the next level but black by itself can be just as striking when making your style statement (pair with a printed top tucked and cinched at the waist).

Labels that love it - Fausto Puglisi, Monique Lhuillier, Alice & Olivia

So please, if you can't act it - at least look like a lady for once - and hide away those shorts this season because skirts are here to stay.
